Written by deathnight114 on August 02, 2010, 01:55:55 amStarcraft II: Wings of Liberty
The history of Starcraft as a series has come a long way, changing form and gaining popularity over the years. Here is how Starcraft began.
History of Starcraft
The original Starcraft was released in 1998 for the PC. It became popular around the world, but nowhere more so than South Korea. Currently it is the tenth most sold game despite the fact that it is ten years old. Later in 1999 Blizzard released an expansion adding new units and new campaigns to the game, called Starcraft: Brood war. They then released a battle chest for the game with both Starcraft, and Starcraft: Brood War.
Later on in 2007, Starcraft 2 was announced. It went through many changes, and went through many complaining fans, but finally in 2010, the beta for the game was announced. Many people flooded in to play it, but many people didn't get in and simply waited for the release of the game. After the game was released, there were 1.8 million sales around the world on day 1, excluding Korea. Korea amounted to about 4 million sales on its own merely on the first day.
Blizzard has announced that Starcraft II will be a trilogy. It will have Starcraft II: Wings of liberty, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and finally, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void.
The Game
There are three distinct races in this game, each different from one another. The Zerg, which are great in numbers but lack strength in their units; the Terran, which are a mech race most similar to the humans; and the Protoss which are psionic, with technology far more advanced than the Terrans, but they cannot build nearly as many. All three races are equally balanced, and they all have a different styles of game play. Players usually will pick one race and go with it, because it's hard to learn all three.
There are many pros to this game and a few cons.
Pros
The game is a very fast paced game, with a map editor that can pretty much make any game.
It features three different races, each of them equally balanced.
It has a friendly community.
And the game has great graphics.
There are many hours of game play, whether your a hardcore gamer, or simply a casual gamer
.
It has an amazing campaign with amazing cut scenes, which were surprisingly made in the Starcraft II Galaxy editor!
It also has an amazing AI which is, surprisingly difficult to beat.
It has achievements.
Cons
If you are just starting out, you will probably get your butt kicked a few times before you take a win.
The game takes a while to patch once they have released several patches.
Some players can be mean at times online.
And there is no chat room where you can talk to the whole community (yet).
This game has achievements for many things, beating the campaign, doing good micro, you name it, there are plenty of achievements, the more you earn the more achievement points you get, these aren't really used for anything but showing off, however they can be fun and challenging to earn!
